Pure Mac given international tick

November 10, 2016

Local photographer Mickala Thomas, owner of Pure Mac Photography, has been recognised the world over for her quality wedding photos winning not one but three International Wedding Photography Awards.

Known as the Wedawards Mickala said she entered this prestigious competition, which is judged by a different panel of peers every month, to gain exposure to other photographers and also receive constructive criticism of her submitted photographs.

“Each month a selection of photos is chosen as the world’s best and with professionals entering from every corner of the earth to be selected three times is just amazing,” Mickala said.

“Every selection means that I have been recognized by my peers as being one of the best and I am thrilled.

“My uncle is a landscape photographer and when I was 12 years old he gave me his old film camera and that’s where my love of photography started.”

Mickala continued her photography love affair while at school where she learned with old-fashioned film and the chemistry behind developing her own photos.

It was when she was on maternity leave however with her first child Phoenix that she got back into the art and has since completed a Diploma in Photography with the Australian Institute of Photography.

“I am continuously researching and studying online to better my techniques and to discover new ways to take interesting and truly beautiful photos,” she said.

“I now have a wonderful assistant at Pure Mac in Andrea Sissons who took a beautiful portrait of me which I use frequently on my website and in advertising.

“I will do all sorts of photography including family portraits and lifestyle shots but weddings are my favourite.

“The reason I fell in love with wedding photography was simply because I really genuinely love working with people, and couples that are in love are just the best thing ever.

“There is something very pure about it, but also the chance to really photograph a couple in a special way, to capture their love story and make something extraordinary.”
