The sun shone down on hot rods and vintage vehicles of all descriptions at the 2016 Lake Mulwala Rod Run with entrants and spectators alike hailing the weekend the “best ever”.
Northern Suburbs Street Rods President Ray McDonald said after four years in Yarrawonga Mulwala he had no doubt this year was the best event yet.
“We learn something new each year and make a few changes here and there and there’s no doubt it just keeps getting better,” Ray said.
“This year we have had registrations as far away as Perth and Tasmania which is testament to the fact this event has become one of the premier events of this type in Australia.”
The weekend began officially on Friday with the proud owners registering their vehicles at JC Lowe Oval; the event is specifically for vehicles 1965 or earlier with rodded, modified and classic vehicles eligible.
On Saturday, the power machines headed to the Wilby Raceway where drag racing ensued in front of a very appreciative crowd.
Following the roaring speed of the racing, a more sedate pace was the order of the evening for the Belmore Street Saturday Night Cruise.
Not only did the main drag of Yarrawonga turn into vintage car heaven there was dancing in the street, rock ‘n’ roll of course to match the era of the vehicles, with the very young and the very old and all ages in between taking part.
“People were setting up chairs and securing their spots along the street from around 3pm,” Ray said.
“From what I could tell the businesses that stayed open for the night did a roaring trade, which is great for them too.”
The grand finale of the weekend was the Super Sunday Show and Shine – a perfect end to a fantastic weekend.
With market stalls, entertainment, more rock ‘n’ roll dancing and of course the hundreds of wonderful vehicles on display at JC Lowe Oval, Yarrawonga Mulwala really was the best place to be.
