Woodlock will feature alongside some of the up-and-coming bands from across the region at the Yarrawonga Battle of the Bands.

Emerging bands from across the district will take to the stage of the Yarrawonga Town Hall on August 27 for the Yarrawonga FReeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands.

The bands are competing for a place in the regional final of the Battle of the Bands competition, plus $500 prize money, and audience members will have a front row seat to some of the most exciting new talent on offer.

The all-ages show will also feature Yarrawonga’s home grown success story Woodlock.

Woodlock is a trio consisting of brothers Zech and Eze Walters and Bowen Purcell who began their early music careers performing locally.

Now based in Melbourne, the boys have worked hard to perfect their sound in the studio and translate that into strong, energetic and creative live shows.

Woodlock released their second EP ‘Labour of Love’ in 2014, followed by their hit ‘Sirens’ in September 2015 which gained traction on the independent charts, top 50 iTunes charts and Spotify viral charts.

The toured across the country in 2015 and this year have been spending time in the studio prior to releasing their latest single ‘The Only Ones’.

Taking time out from their busy promotional tour, Woodlock has agreed to come home to Yarrawonga to support this all-ages, alcohol and drug free, Yarrawonga Battle of the Bands.

The event is being co-ordinated by the local FReeZA team comprising Yarrawonga College P-12 VCE music students with support from Moira Shire Council as part of the Victorian Government FReeZA initiative.

“The youth-orientated event is designed to give young, local bands a chance to perform in front of their peers as well as creating a greater appreciation for the local music scene,” said FReeZA team member Jake Willett.

“The line-up features an exciting list of bands from throughout the shire as well as headliners Woodlock and is sure to be a great night.”

The entertainment begins at 6.30pm, set to finish at 11pm, with tickets available at the door for $5.

The event is strictly drug, smoke and alcohol free and there will be no pass outs. Music fans 12 years and under must be accompanied by an adult.

A free bus service is available but bookings are essential. The bus will pick up and drop off at Nathalia, Numurkah, Strathmerton, Yarroweyah, Koonoomoo and Cobram.

Contact the Moira Shire Youth Team for bus bookings on 0358 719 291.
