‘Hot August Night and Me - A Neil Diamond Story’ delves into the album Hot August Night and the story behind its creator and will feature at the Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre on Saturday, August 27.
Starring Dominic Finley and the Diamantes, the show features the songs from the album as well as interesting stories as to how those songs were created and Diamond’s dark journey from a struggling Brooklyn poet to becoming one of the world’s most loved performers.
Performer Dominic Finley is a former member of 80s chart toppers Cutting Crew and has a background worlds apart from Diamond’s New York upbringing in the ‘Tin Pan Alley’ days of Broadway.
Finley’s is the world of cobbled streets, terrace houses and a show business grounding won out of the gritty working men’s clubs in Lancashire in the North of England.
The show sees Finley carefully weave his personal story with the legacy of Neil Diamond. Finley is backed by the superb Diamantes, a fantastic band whose musical characters bring that very special Hot August Night back to life by delighting audiences with stunning renditions of Sweet Caroline, I am…I said, Song Sung Blue, Crunchy Granola Suite and many more.
‘Lost between two shores’ Finley’s story leads to his eventual emigration to Australia, a true Neil Diamond country, where 1 in 3 homes has a copy of Hot August Night.
Don’t miss Hot August Night and Me on stage at the Wangaratta Performing Centre on Saturday, August 27.
